Bianca Jagger and Calvin Klein — the house and the man — go way back. Jagger and Klein himself were part of a ’70s circle that included Andy Warhol, Halston and Truman Capote in its sultry glow. But Jagger long ago traded glamorous nights for days fighting for justice. For three decades, she has campaigned for peace and in defense of human rights, economic justice, and environmental protection. In 2006, she founded the Bianca Jagger Human Rights Foundation, impressively immersed in social media (she is on Facebook and her Twitter handle is @BiancaJagger ), to be a force for change and a voice for vulnerable members of society. “We cannot talk about human rights if we’re not willing to address issues of social and economic justice and protection of the environment,” explains Jagger. “Everything is interconnected. I have always addressed these issues with a holistic approach. I am a firm believer in Aristotle’s principle ‘The whole is more than the sum of its parts.’”But Jagger, the woman who has played muse to Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, and Klein, can’t escape fashion; it won’t let her. That includes Calvin Klein creative director Francisco Costa, who’s been inspired by Jagger for decades. The two sat down in New York for Bazaar to chat about fashion and the state of the world.
